Places to visit in Dublin City

Guinness Storehouse, St James's Gate, Dublin | P: 087-408-4800 Website: www.guinness.com

The old myth says it tastes better here in Dublin than anywhere else in the world. Try it out for yourself in their Gravity Bar, 200 meters up above the city visitors get a free pint after their tour of the brewery.

The Old Jameson Distillery, Bow Street, Smithfield Village | P: 087-807-2355 Website: www.jamesonwhiskey.com

Elsewhere, there's the Old Jameson Distillery where you can also get a great view of the city by
whizzing up to the top of an old brick-built chimney.

Cow's Lane Market, Cow's Lane, Old City Temple Bar, Dublin | Website: www.temple-bar.ie

Every Saturday the hippest of Dublin's creature can be found prowling around the Cow's Lane Market. It's a skin-tingling affair offering up bizarre and one-off creations from up-and-coming designers. There's jewelry, bags, shoes and frocks. If that's not enough, the boutiques in the surrounding area showcase slightly more established designers. Open 10am - 5.30pm.

Oscar Wilde House Museum, 1 Merrion Square, Dublin | P: 087-662-0281

Before he got so witty, the young Anglo-Irish playwright lived here with his mum and dad, a writer and a surgeon. Later he attended Trinity College Dublin where he studied classics. The house has been kitted out the way it would have been when Oscar was a boy and is open in the summer months for tours.

Barry Doyle Museum, Upstairs, 30 Georges Street Arcade, Dublin, Ireland, 2 | Website: www.barrydoyledesign.com

More than just a shop, Barry's pad is also his studio so you can watch his creations take shape. It's a truly stunning space and that's before you've even set eyes on the handmade designs. Alongside more conventional offerings are a range of commitment and partnerships rings. Definitely worth a peek.

Book of Kells, College Green, Dublin | P: 087-608-2320 | Website: www.tcd.ie

When they weren't inventing whiskey, the Irish monks were busy producing religious literature. The Book of Kells is top example, an elaborately-decorated version of the four gospels created over 1,200 years ago. You won't see much of it mind as it's kept behind bullet-proof glass. But it's all housed in Trinity College which is worth a stroll around in itself.

Hugh Lane Gallery, Charlemont House, Parnell Square North, Dublin | P: 087-222-5550 | Website: www.hughlane.ie

When Irish-born artist, Francis Bacon he of the screaming pope fame died in London, his studio was bequeathed to the Hugh Lane Gallery. Knowing only too well what you shouldn't do to gift horses they had it transported to Ireland. Dust and all. See what you think. Elsewhere are some strong works by Degas, Rodin and Manet.
